Everything the books need.
Nothing they don't.

Libro is the core of accounting done properly: a journal that balances, a ledger that stays put, and reports you can hand to anyone.

  • Balanced vouchers
  • Month-end close
  • Branch scoping

The journal

Every entry balances, or it doesn't save.

Double-entry is the rule Luca Pacioli wrote down in 1494: every amount goes to two sides, and the sides agree. Libro enforces it on every voucher, so a lopsided entry never reaches your books.

  • Vouchers that must balanceDebits equal credits before a voucher can be saved. Libro shows the difference on the form, line by line, while you type.
  • Numbers that are never reusedEach voucher gets the next number from the server. A deleted voucher keeps its number, so a gap is a fact you can ask about, not a hole someone filled.
  • Draft, approve, postA voucher starts as a draft, is approved, then posted. Only a posted voucher reaches the ledger, and who moved it is on record.
  • Receipts on the entryAttach the receipt, the bank advice or the signed approval to the voucher itself, where the auditor will look for it.

The ledger

Posted means permanent.

Once a voucher is posted it cannot be edited or deleted. A mistake is corrected the way accountants always have: with a reversing entry that everyone can see.

  • Reverse, never rewriteReversing a posted voucher creates its mirror, debits and credits swapped, and links the two. The original stays exactly as it was.
  • Close the monthLock a fiscal period when it is done. Nothing can be posted into a closed period, so last month's figures stay last month's figures.
  • A general ledger you can readEvery posted line, by account and by period, with running balances kept for you.
  • Books that check themselvesA reconciliation report compares every account balance with the ledger lines behind it, and names any account where they disagree.

The reports

The four statements, straight from the ledger.

Reports are read from posted entries only, so the number on the statement is the number in the books.

  • Trial balanceEvery account's debit and credit balance for the period, with totals that must agree.
  • Balance sheetWhat the business owns, what it owes, and what is left for its owners, at any date.
  • Income statementRevenue less expenses for the period, so you can see whether you made money.
  • Cash flowWhere the cash came from and where it went, period by period.

Getting started

Start with a chart that already makes sense.

You don't need an accountant to set Libro up. It comes with a starter chart of accounts you can rename, extend or import over.

  • A starter chart of accountsAssets, liabilities, equity, revenue and expenses, already grouped, coded and ready. Add your bank accounts and go.
  • Import from a spreadsheetBring your existing accounts in from a CSV file. Rows that can't be read are listed by line number, and the rest still come in.
  • Export anythingEvery list and report downloads as PDF or Excel, laid out to print.
  • Your team, with the right accessGive each person a role. A bookkeeper can draft, a manager can approve, and only the people you choose can post or close a month.

Not here yet

Invoicing, bills, bank feeds and tax filing are not part of Libro today. We’d rather tell you than let you find out. They can be built on top of Libro for a business that needs them.
